Isabella-my storm forecaster...

Isabella woke me up at 7 a.m. by trembling so hard she was making the bed shake. I listened for a minute but didn't hear any rain hitting the roof, no thunder or wind, either. I tried explaining to her it wasn't storming, there was absolutely no reason to be afraid, and damn it- I didn't go to bed until 3 a.m. and wasn't ready to get up yet! But she wasn't listening to me- she was cued into her inner barometer and it seemed to be telling her the mother of all storms was coming to kill us all. So I got up and took her out to potty. It was cloudy but didn't look like a deadly storm was headed our way. When we got back inside I checked our local weather channel and discovered there were severe storms, flooding and a tornado in St. Pete and Tampa area (about 25 miles north of us) and there was a huge storm in the Gulf heading for us in Bradenton.

When we came back inside I tried to get her to eat her breakfast, but she immediately went and sat in front of the cabinet where I keep her xanax. It was as if she was saying "Screw the food, I want my damn drugs, and I want them now!" So I gave her a xanax, and as I read my e-mail she went to work nursing on Little Puppy.

Soon the thunder started booming and some serious storm clouds rolled in...

Now the rain is pounding the roof, thunder is booming, and water is already standing in the street out front. I just checked the radar and behind the storm that's over us now, there is a huge red and yellow glob out in Gulf moving our way. We are under a severe storm and flood warning, and it looks like it is going rain most of the day. Instead of going shopping as I had planned, it appears I will be spending the day with a drugged dog under my feet.

Peace-
Linda

poor isabella....i experience the same thing with cody. he becomes very anxious and afraid when storms are around. my sister's golden retriever is the same. no amount of cuddling or soothing will calm them. :(

keep safe ~

Aw, poor puppy - I feel so sorry for her. I wonder what makes her do that. You have such dramatic skies where you live - that's a very cool cloud shot.

Poor Bella :( Dogs seem to have some sixth sense about storms. They always know before we do when they are coming. I hope the storm doesn't cause to much damage.

poor Bella...if a bunch of concerned blog buddies could help from afar, she would be fine.... poor animals.. they do just know don't they?
It's pretty funny that she goes to her "meds" cupboard..

Well, you did need some rain...but this is usually how it goes... feast or famine... or ..build an ark and be ready!

Bless her heart, I hate that she is so nervous about the weather. It must be miserable for her. But isn't she clever going to her drug cupboard when she knows she needs it! I'm glad you didn't get the storms that Tampa and St. Pete did!

Wonderful photo of the storm rolling in!! I do feel terrible for Bella though, I used to be terrified of storms myself and hid in a closet once with my cat, we were home all by ourselves and it was a really bad sounding storm. ( that was years ago)

Poor Isabella she really looked as though she needed something to calm her down. :(
My little Merlin isn't scared of thunder but looks at me when he hears the Booms like saying "What the Hell is going on out there! " LOL
